What is "standard steel" produced from iron ore?

The process of manufacturing steel from scrap (used steel) is relatively straightforward. After being sorted and processed, the scrap is charged into an Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) or an Induction Furnace (IF) to be refined into steel billets and then rolled into final products. In contrast, steel produced from iron ore must undergo an extensive, multi-stage process to yield "standard steel" products that meet the highest quality requirements.

First, iron ore of varying grades and sizes is processed and blended at precise ratios, then combined with coke, limestone, and dolomite in a blast furnace to produce liquid pig iron. Subsequently, the molten iron is transferred to a basic oxygen furnace (BOF) and a refining furnace to achieve the specific steel grades required by the market, before being cast by a continuous casting system into semi-finished steel billets. Finally, at the Rolling Mill, square billets are rolled into finished construction steel, including rebar and wire rods, while flat billets are processed into hot-rolled coils (HRC).
Thanks to this closed-loop steelmaking process utilizing state-of-the-art technology from G7 nations, Hoa Phat has successfully transformed iron ore into diverse, high-standard products remarkably free of impurities. Hoa Phat’s finished steel features exceptionally low impurity levels (Cu, Ni, Cr) at less than 0.03%, significantly below international standards. Furthermore, the smelting process from iron ore thoroughly eliminates harmful elements such as Sulfur (S) and Phosphorus (P), resulting in a cleaner, purer, and superior-quality product. Due to these extremely low impurity levels, steel produced from iron ore exhibits excellent bending properties, ductility, and high elongation. As a result, it possesses superior mechanical properties and can be rolled into products with larger diameters and higher grades.
